In Bakersfield, Calif., on Wednesday, thousands rallied outside the office of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R) in support of a comprehensive immigration policy that includes a road map to citizenship. Republican leaders say they will not bring up the bill that was passed by the Senate, but instead will focus on several smaller immigration bills. María Elena Durazo, executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, said there will be consequences if House Republicans block the Senate bill.

Former Illinois lawmaker Jesse Jackson, Jr., was sentenced to 30 months in prison at a North Carolina prison to be determined on Wednesday, to be followed by 36 months of probation.

Buzz is building around a new documentary film series, "Strength in Union," which is currently being filmed. Covering the history of the labor movement and highlighting the stories of workers, the series also will feature interviews from historians and labor leaders, including Leo W. Gerard, international president of the United Steelworkers (USW); Cliff Guffey, president of the Postal Workers (APWU); Lawrence J. Hanley, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU); and Captain Lee Moak, president of the Air Line Pilots (ALPA).The NH Labor News reports it is likely the series will air on PBS, as well as in select theaters and film festivals.

He doesn't have to make his bed every morning.Kudelka, who has worked with Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake, is part of a group of performers, including singers, dancers and choreographers, who regularly tour with big name acts as part of their jobs. While many performers have a voice on the job when they work in music videos or on TV and film, they do not have the union contract for their tour work. This affects everything, from access to health insurance to retirement benefits and safety on the job.
